Obiettivo
The main aim of the present work is to develop carbide-free steels with high strength (>950MPa) and high toughness in low carbon steels, microalloyed predominantly with Ti, using controlled rolling followed by multi-stage cooling processes. Likewise, higher carbon contents (~0.3%) will also be tried in order to reach higher strength levels. Other substitutional alloying elements will be added to increase the maximum degree of transformation to bainitic ferrite so that the final microstructure consists of bainitic ferrite and high carbon retained austenite. Special attention will be paid to investigate the mechanism of bainite transformation as well as the role of retained austenite on the mechanical properties of bainitic microstructure in these steels.
