Stability of long-living roadways

Ziel

The project proposal represents a comprehensive programme with four partners, to solve the problems of roadway stability in deep coal mines. The aims of the collaborative project proposals are the development of technologies and methods for long-living roads ways allowing:

- to design of compound support/strata systems in order that the long living roadway is secured against the effects of groundwater, temperature, strata loosening and changes in stress patterns.

- to carry out effective repairs of strata and support, simply and cost-effectively.

In connection with the above main targets secondary targets are:

- the research into the rockweathering in long-living roadways
- the research to determine the appropriate support
- the improvement of rock reinforcement
- the development of the operational distressing method
- the research to clarify the influence of faults and of their role in the transmission of seismic events.
- the development of a risk assessment strategy for application in long-living coal mine roadways.

As a result of this comprehensive research, a better understanding of the problems can be expected and real progress can be made in long term roadway support with positive effects on the efficiency of coal mines and security underground. This will result in a more competitive position for coal and a more rational utilisation of community energy resources.
