Ergonomic study of a fluidised bed control room

Obiettivo

The research had dual aims:

attempting, via an ergonomic approach, to identify key issues (stress and underactivity), translating these into proposals for improvements to the current situation;

drawing up layout proposals for a control room in a new fluidised bed unit.

Methods:

Observation, measurement and evaluation of:

external stress:
task;
organisation;

environment:
anthropometric, biomechanical

physical:
noise, vibration, temperature and humidity, lighting;

functional stress:
physiological, psychological, behavioural;
subjective stress experience.

Aims:

Identification of factors leading to control-room operators in an experimental fluidised bed unit suffering from either stress or underactivity.

Formulating, on the basis of these results, design suggestions for a new unit.
