The COMPACT project aims to increase awareness of the latest technological discoveries among key stakeholders in the context of social media and convergence. Specific objectives to achieve this goal include:
1.1 To represent a holistic approach in the compilation, dissemination and recommendations for the research on the latest technological and policy developments in convergence of social media, but also in the development trends among the policy stakeholders. The project will make all the stakeholders aware of current and future policy and regulatory frameworks by taking into account the emergent nature of symbiosis and interactions among social media and content, but also of the research processes and policing efforts that are triggered by those properties.
1.2 To collect, compare and analyse information about various strategies and roadmaps from a technological and social perspective. This should provide indirect support for R&D programmes through the dissemination of results and organization of scientific and/or policy events.
1.3 To provide information, analysis and development of research agendas and roadmaps, pre-standardization initiatives and stakeholders´ coordination within convergence and social media by summarizing, comparing and classifying the most important current research initiatives and plans to delineate the existing frameworks and to make conclusions and recommendations for improvement.
Overall objective and all of the foreseen specific objectives were reached and exceeded by the project’s organizational construct. The holistic approach was a guiding principle in implementation of all activities thus resulting in reflection of holistic approach in all out outputs, outcomes and overall impact of the project. The specific objective 1.1 (holistic approach in compilation dissemination and recommendations) was reflected in exceeding results in all five working packages, and more specifically in deliverables D1.1 State of the art research on Convergence and Social Media, D1.2 Future Research on Convergence and Social Media, D1.3 A compendium on R&D programmes/ activities, D1.4 Report on Media Regulators & convergence, D2.1 Report on current policy and regulatory frameworks in media and content convergence, D2.2 Report on national courts, social media and convergence, D2.3 Report and recommendations about future policy and regulatory frameworks, D3.1 Categories of pre-standardisation initiatives, D3.2 Social Media Convergence in the European (pre)standardization policy impact assessment and stakeholders’ coordination. D3.3 Report on Socio-Economic and Political Impact on Legacy Media and Social Media Convergence. In order to efficiently and effectively meet specific objective 1.2 in addition to envisaged structured collection of information about various strategies and roadmaps from ta technological and social perspective, in each of working packages and each of deliverables sophisticated academic and policy research methods were deployed. This approach provided for us that in addition to making information organised and available we delivered academic contextualisation of the information which will have a significant impact on the sustainability of the results reached by compact. Each of our deliverables in each of working packages reflects on ‘holy trilogy’: academic, industries and policy contextualisation consequently making it directly impactful to societies we covered by our comprehensive approach.
To sum up, our deliverables started as authentic academic research developed through state-of-the-art compendium reports and ended with cutting edge research in deliverables D3.2 and D3.3. Impact of this project will be visible across the European societies, industries and policies in years to come.
