Smart City Control System (SCCS) For Green Lighting

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - SCCS (Smart City Control System (SCCS) For Green Lighting)

Berichtszeitraum: 2017-06-01 bis 2017-11-30

"The main problem addressed within this project is an inefficient use of outdoor lighting. The solution Greinon come up with is the combination of IoT to manage the city infrastructure (Smart City) and adaptive lighting. Smart City lighting is essential so that it can have economic and environmental contributions. The system that Greinon develops can decreases up to 80% energy consumption, a considerable amount of maintenance costs. These both items would save the public expenses and increase the use of available human resources. It would help the cities to save money on the outdoor lighting and maintenance, so that those funds can be utilized for a more needed area, such as better health, or better education, etc. Furthermore, climate change has already shown the adverse effects in the current time, and it'd cause to destroy the world if inefficient human consumption can be decreased. The decreased energy consumption and utilized resources would reduce the CO2 emission related the inefficient use of the outdoor lighting. Moreover, the adaptive lighting would lower the light pollution that has negative effects on human and animal biology, and plants. Lastly, the intelligent lighting can increase the traffic safety as the moving pedestrians and cars can be easier to notice due to light level change. In overall, we can summarize the benefits in three categories, economic benefits, decreased environmental impacts, and increased traffic safety. Among the overall objectives, there are the following: decreasing operational and maintenance costs, environmental concerns and changing public perception of obsolete city management solutions foster the demand for smart city control systems, incl. smart lighting infrastructure. A few available smart city control solutions, incl. smart lighting infrastructure, meet these market needs. Therefore, SCCS will deliver a range of new benefits with regard to the above-mentioned challenges and strengthen company’s competitive advantages by enabling ""smartness"" of public lighting infrastructure through a sensors’ network, Internet-of-Things (IoT) and Big Data analysis. The Innovation project objectives include a) Finalization of SCCS`s design; b) Preparation for a large-scale production; c) Demonstration and testing of SCCS; d) Dissemination of relevant results; e) Preparation for the market launch and further expansion, incl. meeting organizational needs, building the value chain, adjusting the marketing mix, business model and company's strategy, as well as prepare for post-project external financing, and; f) Relevant risks assessment and mitigation."
Greinon explored the smart city market and completed their segmentation. They have defined their target markets and briefly explored the possible entries and customers. Greinon has done research, customer meetings either one to one or during the international smart city fairs, mainly as an active exhibitor or presenter. As result of their work, Greinon defined the product specifications in the hardware and software. Greinon concluded to have three versions of hardware in the intelligent light control system. During this phase, Greinon established connections with various players in the Nordic lighting market and completed a proof of concept together with a partner in Sweden. Another proof of concept is already in the pipeline together with a Norwegian partner to be completed in Norway. Furthermore, Greinon has completed SWAT analysis that helped them in marketing & sales activities and plans to improve their weaknesses further and minimize the risks. Greinon established connections and have done feasibility of the future improvements and production chain. Also, they have planned the team expansion and re-structure the organization accordingly. Furthermore, Greinon has developed an IPR strategy to be fast in the market and protect their know-how from competitors or partners. Lastly, they defined the competition and planned how to strengthen ourselves in the competition, and planned the second phase of their innovation project.
Being a pioneer of the advanced fully autonomous modular Smart City Control System developer, Greinon decreases the environmental impacts by optimizing the outdoor lighting. This would decrease the CO2 emission, light pollution; and, will lead to the increased on-the-road safety. All of those would contribute to save the public money consumption and allow using it in other items such as health, education, etc. Greinon is also aiming to demonstrate multi-functional smart city management system and lead the market to go in that direction. Lastly, Greinon is aiming at contributing within the area of interoperability among the systems.
