Micro Quantum Dot-Light Emitting Diode and Organic Light Emitting Diode Direct Patterning (MILEDI)

Periodic Reporting for period 3 - MiLEDI (Micro Quantum Dot-Light Emitting Diode and Organic Light Emitting Diode Direct Patterning (MILEDI))

Berichtszeitraum: 2020-07-01 bis 2022-06-30

The MiLEDI ambition is to demonstrate that the combination of the laser/electron beam technology and the quantum dots (QDs) optical properties are suitable for the icro LED (mLEDs) and micro OLED (mOLEDs) array manufacturing. MiLEDI project will merge nanotechnology and photonics as building blocks that arranged in a proper way give rise to a robust technology that will be applied for industrial production of RGB LEDs/OLEDs.
Photonics and nanomaterials and their application on device manufacturing are the key issues of the project that will bring at the realisation of a micro-display.
The micro-display is then integrated to create a rear projector for automotive interior. The direct integration of rear projection screen on geometrically complex surfaces is the proposed use of the patterned microdisplays prototypes explored on MiLEDI.
The work performed in the first three months included the study and the set up of the work to be done in the next year. This study took into consideration the evaluation of the precursors for materials and the specification of the patterning conditions either for laser and e-beam. In the same way the specifications of the final prototype were described by the SMEs present in the Consortium. In parallel the first initial trials on materials to find the correct nanomaterials precursors where also carried out.
All the results and followed events are reported in the project website that has been launched at the MILEDI kick off Meeting held in Frascati in January.
The project impact for the Research & Innovation Action "Disruptive approaches to optical manufacturing by 2 and 3 D opto-structuring” is resumed below:
• Reinforcing Europe's industrial competitiveness and leadership in photonic market sectors where Europe is strong by assessing the potential of QD-based colour conversion for realisation of RGB pixels at high resolution for microdisplay use.
• Strengthen European manufacturing base in photonics to safeguard the further potential for innovation and value creation and for job creation.
• Better exploit the innovation capacity of the photonics SMEs and the innovation leverage potential of the innovation clusters and national platforms.
