Periodic Reporting for period 1 - mitozippers (Mitochondrial membrane-targeted compounds for cancer therapy)

mitozippers quests to develop a new anticancer treatment targeting the mitochondria of cancer cells with high specificity. To achieve this goal, we have built a nanovehicule composed on gold nanoparticles decorated with different drugs able to interfiere with the mitochondrial homeostasis and specifically interact with proteins exclusively present in tumor cells. We demonstrate in living cells that vehiculization increases the cytotoxic effect of drugs by a factor 1000. We deliver as a proof of concept a first functional prototype ready to be tested in animal cancer models.
