Advanced training in Laser Sciences

Obiettivo

The main objective of this Early Stage Training project is to provide advanced training on laser-based science and technology to be used on cutting edge multidisciplinary research in bio-physics/chemistry and nanoscience. The training is offered by four leading European Laser Facilities, (IESL-FORTH, Heraklion, Greece; LENS, Florence, Italy; LCVU, Amsterdam, the Netherlands; VU LRC, Vilnius, Lithuania), complementary in their expertise with a long standing history in collaborative research training projects , training of facility users, and coordination of large scale synergies. A total of 20 young researchers will be trained in technological and scientific research frontiers such as: Ultra-fast lasers: advanced coherent radiation sources based on optical parametric generation and low and high-order harmonic generation. Molecular Imaging: novel-imaging techniques for the detailed mapping of chemical processes. Biomolecule dynamics: state-of-the art laser spectroscopic methods and laser optical tools for the manipulation and study of biomolecules at the cellular and molecular level. Nanotechnology: Ultra fast laser methods for dynamic studies of nanostructures and processing of materials at the nano-scale level. The multi-site training will enable young researchers no t only to exploit the technological complementary of the participating EU laser facilities and but also interact directly with talented scientific expertise across the host institutes and Europe since all these facilities host top researchers from the EU and abroad. Overall, the project is expected to endow young researchers with competitive skills, both scientific, stemming from intense research training at a very high level, and managerial from witnessing first hand how large scale facilities operate, thus enabling them to pursue dynamic research or management careers in academia and industry, contributing to growth of the European ¿economy¿ through scientific and intellectual development.
