Field data analytics cloud platform using drone-photogrammetry and computer vision algorithms for construction infrastructure planning, execution and delivery

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - Datumate (Field data analytics cloud platform using drone-photogrammetry and computer vision algorithms for construction infrastructure planning, execution and delivery)

Periodo di rendicontazione: 2018-06-01 al 2018-09-30

In a typical construction project survey scenario, 70% of the cost of the processes is the work done in the field and the conventional field to plan to execute process is arduous, expensive and fraught with inefficiencies. The traditional and rather laborious approach to surveying and BIM plan monitoring has made a significant percentage of construction projects run into overtime and go ‘over budget’. We have developed DatuBIM™, an end-to-end infrastructure software-as-a-service (SaaS) cloud platform, that enables construction companies with an infrastructure buildup focus, to Monitor their project Budget, Time-lines and Quality, by geodetic and database analysis on a daily basis. It allows an automated flight planning, flight execution, and site modeling for a fast, improved and more frequent field survey of the construction project. With this solution we target Construction projects' Contractors, Management, Engineering or Development companies, enabling various stakeholders to control the budget, schedule and quality of the projects and facilitate up to 50% cost savings over traditional methods while reducing project lifecycle’s durations. It allows construction companies to save 3%-5% of the overall project execution cost.
During the feasibility assessment we evaluated the technical and business potential of the DatuBIM™ cloud platform. Throughout the project, we have greatly expanded the knowledge regarding the technical objectives, potential market targets, and regulatory approval required for European market launch. We planned the DatuBIM™ platform development plan and we contacted potential customers to plan the pilot trials of the full stack solution in a real scenario. We have proved the economic feasibility of the project by showing the demand from the construction market for an automated data analytics platform and the size of the addressable market. We have validated the business model and estimated the company growth in terms of revenues and employees in the next 5 years.
The overall objective of the innovation project is to switch from a small-scale sales of survey services delivered on client’s premise upon the payment of a license to an end-to-end solution for construction delivered as a SaaS solution on the cloud. The main software engineering activities concern photogrammetry, computer vision and analytics algorithm enhancements, cloud platform development, and drone flight planning and execution. This will enable us to scale-up our business, reach out to a larger number of companies with a full stack solution and target the wider European market, filling a gap of automation of the construction industry.
