PieceOfCake: an AI-driven chatbot to manage complex business data

Project description

Talking solution to outperform traditional dashboards

Complex business data and analytics can be very valuable for an organisation, but they may also be too hard to understand. Usually, the data require business analysts to interpret and translate into simpler terms in reports and dashboards. The EU-funded POC project has a smarter solution: a trained AI system that allows the use of natural language (NL) to access complex data. Questions like ‘How many users visited our web last week for the first time?’ will be automatically answered in the form of NL and graphs. Mid-level managers and interdisciplinary roles (such as marketing) are examples of positions that will highly benefit from it.

Objective

The complexity of business data (accounting, marketing, etc.) requires technical skills to handle and process it. However, the roles in a company that need this information to operate are usually different from the ones with those technical skills, also known as business analysts. Third-party solutions or in-house IT departments provide dashboards and reports to fill the gap. Nevertheless, this methodology is (1) expensive in terms of IT time devoted to implementation and maintenance, (2) rigid and difficult to adapt to the particular work-flow of each company, (3) slow and tedious to use. These issues can weigh down a company and translate into lost business opportunities.
We propose PieceOfCake, a trained Artificial Intelligence (AI) system that allows the use of Natural Language (NL) to access complex data. Questions like “How many users visited our web during last week for the first time?” will be automatically answered in the form of NL and graphs. Our product will change the way data-driven companies operate. Mid-level managers and interdisciplinary roles (e.g. marketing) are examples of positions that will highly benefit from it. PieceOfCake will outperform traditional dashboards in terms of ease of use, agility, and speed. It will disrupt strategic decision-making and drastically reduce IT costs. It will also allow small enterprises and self-employees to keep pace with the AI wave.
The feasibility study will identify which vertical (marketing, analytics, etc.) offers a higher market opportunity, what monetisation strategies work better (SaaS, white-labeling, tailored customers, etc.), and what market segment better accept our strategy.
Given the expected impact AI will have in global economy, we believe our project is crucial to the competitiveness of Europe against Asia and United States.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
