The Intelligent Quality System: a Computer-Based Methodology for Quality Management

Exploitable results

TIQS is a computer-based tool for the effective set-up, maintenance and continuous improvement of quality management systems within a Total Quality Management (TQM) frame-work. It allows quality assurance systems to be defined in terms of the business concerned rather than by generic standards. The result is greater transparency in quality management practices between companies, especially between larger companies and small and medium sized enterprises (SME). The TIQS system comprises a series of modules which guide users through a structured description of the requirements for the quality system. Users first describe their own enterprise using a graphical modelling technique. A quality management review module helps the user to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the current quality system. The necessary quality manuals and procedures are produced with the document generation facility. Any deficiencies in the quality system are corrected using the implementation module, which includes a facility to monitor business performance in terms of costs, customer complaints, inventories etc. Finally, potential areas for improvement are identified using an innovative feature called the continuous improvement planning module. The TIQS tools can be used to set up, monitor and audit any management system.
