RP2 Summary
In the second - final - reporting period, the 5E project successfully performed all scheduled work.
WP3 – Roadmapping - built its activities further on work in RP1. 4 Vision Papers were published, linking the innovation opportunities that functional electronics presents with the innovation needs to tackle the Areas of Intervention in Pillar 2 of Horizon Europe:
• Circular economy for green electronics industry
• Electronics enabled energy solutions for digitalisation of European Industries
• Electronics as enabler for autonomous operation of machines
• Advanced sensing solutions for ubiquitous use across sectors
Based on these Vision Papers, the Meta-Roadmap was built. This has led to the identification of 17 recommendations. 15 of those were linked to one of the Vision Papers, while 2 were more general.
WP4 – Implementation - organised workshops jointly with WP5 to involve and collect feedback from relevant areas and stakeholder groups, and to widely disseminate and implement the meta-roadmap developed in WP3 in those areas and groups. A total of 19 workshops and workshop-type actions were implemented in RP2, and another 14 had already been carried out in RP1. Of the 19 workshops and workshop-type actions in RP2, 11 targeted electronics areas, 13 targeted neighbouring areas of digitalisation, 8 targeted stakeholders of the demand side, and 12 had a focus on cascading strategies in regions. Through the joint workshop activities, approx. 300 experts were actively involved and many more were indirectly reached. WP4 contributed to a high level of recognition in the targeted stakeholder groups, has proven that there is a high level of agreement with and support for the results of the project and the recommendations of the meta-roadmap, and has all in all achieved a big impact.
WP5 – Fostering Cooperation - intended to develop and reinforce the European Electronics ecosystem through close cooperation between as many as possible interested organisations and individuals contributing to this community as well as benefitting from it. A main action point in RP2 were the individual workshops to be organised jointly with WP4
• to “close loops” with the ecosystems of the three Electronics Areas
• to address key digital areas, the demand side to create new opportunities, and multipliers, intermediaries and possibly policy-makers on geographical levels to disseminate recommendations
All activities fostering cooperation in relation to the 5E project were announced on the 5Ewebsite to attract participants, inform about the agenda, objectives and instructions for participation. After the activities, results were made available to participants and summaries were provided.
WP6 - Outreach
The 5E website was continuously updated throughout the entire project duration. Thanks to this tool, project outputs were made available.
The 5E Digital Showcase is operational and consultable at: www.5e-project.eu/showcase. It provides visibility to innovations in electronics, be it in Nanoelectronics (NE), Flexible, Organic and Printed Electronics (FOPE), and Electronic Smart Systems (ESS). At the end of the project there are 50 showcases online, coming from 13 different countries, and of which 27 coming from funded projects (at regional, national or European level) and 23 developed in-house by single entities. This platform has found wide acceptance and interest, placing itself as a dissemination tool of great utility for electronics innovators at European level.
The 5E Contest provided visibility and new opportunities to European Electronics Innovators, rewarding entities engaged in the development, manufacturing and commercialisation of electronics products in NE, FOPE, and ESS. The 5E Contest website is consultable at: www.contest2021.5e-project.eu. The Award Ceremony took place during SSI 2021. From the 33 applications received, 3 winners were selected:
In addtion, actions in support of the other WPs were carried out, including networking activities and dedicated communication material, outreach activities, graphic production and dissemination, Stakeholder Database activities and fostering cooperation actions
