COMMERCIALIZING THE FIRST HEAD-UP-DISPLAY FOR OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLES

Project description

Innovative display technology for commercial vehicles

Commercial vehicles rely on several conventional instruments for information. However, this affects driver, vehicle and public safety. Sweden’s HUD Solutions developed a head-up display (HUD) technology that displays the most important information within the driver’s sightline. The aim is to deliver the essential information without the driver needing to look down. Overall, HUD enables better human machine interaction and increases safety and productivity. The EU-funded HUD project will develop a clear industrialisation plan for the HUD technology for off-highway vehicles.

Objective

An overload of information in conventional instruments in commercial vehicles affect driver, vehicle and public safety. HUD Solutions, Sweden AB developed a Head-Up Display (HUD) technology to display the most important information within the driver’s line of sight. With HUDs, the image is perceived to be hovering in the air a few meters in front of the vehicle and driver can see the essential information without looking down. By enabling better human-machine interaction, safety and productivity are increased which, in turn, leads to reduced costs.

HUD Solutions Sweden AB validated a prototype of a HUD for OHVs in a partnership with leading, world-class OEMs in 2017 during an extensive research project financed by Vinnova, Sweden’s innovation agency. The company obtained a clear proof of concept and is now ready to develop a clear industrialization plan for the HUD technology for Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs).

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
