The general problem addressed in this action is to strengthen the capacity of SMEs to carry out their innovation projects which are the engines of their growth. Business leaders must know their strengths and weaknesses in order to be able to call on external expertise according to their needs.
The general objectives of the actions of the H2020 program are twofold: For the Key Account Manager (KAM) action, this involves supporting the SME winners of the SME Instrument program in order to increase their chances of success in their program 'innovation. For the Innovation Management action (EIMC), it is about strengthening the innovation management capacities of growing SMEs.
For the KAM program, the partners (PRE and DEVUP) supported the companies that won the SME Instrument.
During the 2019 period, 39 new companies were supported, including 26 phase 1 winners, 11 phase 2 winners, 1 FTI winners and 1 FETOpen.
For the EIMC program, the partners (PRE and DEVUP) have implemented different methods to recruit SMEs likely to enter the program.
During the 2019 period, 27 new businesses were supported.
For these two programs, regional ecosystems were called upon (cluster, poles of competitiveness, incubators, accelerators, local economic development organizations, etc.) in order to present the approach and to recruit SMEs. Dedicated information meetings have also been organized to publicize the systems. Bridges were of course made during the accompaniments concerning the COSME and H2020 programs.
The direct impacts are measured by taking into account classic indicators of SMEs such as turnover, jobs created or fundraising carried out. But these results can only be measured in the medium and long term.
We can cite for example the company Smart Mobile Solutions (now DooH), accompanied in 2018 by an EIMC action. Since then, restructuring, buyout of a competitor in late 2018, entered the capital of La Poste Group in late 2019 with a contribution of funds of € 500k plus an additional line of credit of € 500k to enable the development of the company.
During these programs, the H2020 teams worked with the COSME teams to organize and carry out workshops to re-read SME Instrument files. In the 2019 period, 3 workshops were carried out on 12 SME projects.
Several SMEs that have followed the EIMC program have been oriented towards the SME Instrument.
We can cite a few examples:
The company KINNOV THERAPEUTICS, winner of the Instrument Phase 2 in 2019 and which had benefited from the EEN COSME services and from a workshop to proofread its application file in 2018.
NANOVATION: EIMC support in 2016, follow-up in 2017, PA in 2018, review of SME Instrument dossier in 2019 and Phase 1 winner in October 2019.
STREAMVISION: Phase 1 winner in December 2014, candidate in phase 2 several times without success, accompanied in EIMC in 2019 for a new deposit in phase 2 to come.
EIMC support enables systematic referral to COSME services as soon as the diagnosis highlights certain issues such as legal, standards or the search for international partners.
On the other hand, project managers participated in training (Digital Innovation Quotient, etc.) as well as sharing of good practices during national meetings of French consortia.
