HUMAN AIRCRAFT ROADMAP FOR VIRTUAL INTELLIGENT SYSTEM

Project description

Flying high with AI in the cockpit

Fully autonomous flying could one day soon replace human pilots on the flight deck. Cognitive computing algorithms could help support pilot decision-making in complex situations. The EU-funded HARVIS project will identify how this can be done. A designer will develop a future concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the cockpit. It will also deliver a concept paper on the future of AI in the cockpit with a set of realistic scenarios where a digital assistant could aid flight operations. HARVIS will also produce a roadmap to assist this EU and Clean Sky Joint Undertaking (CS2 JU) align research and development funds in the next decade.

Objective

The overall objective of HARVIS project is to identify how cognitive computing algorithms implemented in a digital assistant could support the decision making of a single pilot in complex situation. A roadmap will be produced in order to help the EU and CS2 JU in their work of influencing the research and development funds in the next decade.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
