Foucault's manuscripts on phenomenology (1950s) at BnF archive: a digital approach to the edition

Description du projet

EDIFOU’s aim is to explore, organize, digitally index and disseminate Michel Foucault’s unpublished manuscripts of the 1950s and the early 1960s on phenomenology, psychology, psychopathology, and anthropology (collected since 2013 at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France Archive). This part of Foucault’s work is still totally unknown today, therefore EDIFOU aims to provide researchers with a new corpus, which is destined to become a reference work in the field of humanities. Together with proposing original theoretical analysis, EDIFOU meets the most current issues of digital humanities especially related to cultural heritage. EDIFOU has indeed the aims to achieve an original editorial program, and generate new knowledge by means of the development of innovative digital tools. As an external scientific consultant of Triangle’s ANR project 'Foucault Reading Notes', I have already tested the usefulness of the digital tools that have been developed in this framework up to now. EDIFOU’s aim is now to contribute to their improvement and further development. EDIFOU is highly stimulating and offers intellectual challenges. It is an ambitious project that requires not only specific scientific competences in the fields of philosophy, social sciences, and digital humanities, but also those personal and practical skills that enable a researcher to work in a team. At this stage of my career, I can rely on an excellent reputation in the international community of scholars in both the fields of Foucault studies, and history and philosophy of psychiatry. The quality of the research environment, supervision, training, and host facilities at Triangle-ENS de Lyon will give me the important opportunity not only to disseminate my research through diverse communication and outreach strategies, but also to profit from those skills, knowledge and training-related measures, which are fundamental to enhance my scientific independence and, as a consequence, my academic status.
