Mussila MS (Mussila Music School) - An innovative solution in Music Education

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - MUSSILAMS (Mussila MS (Mussila Music School) - An innovative solution in Music Education)

Periodo di rendicontazione: 2019-03-01 al 2019-06-30

Music education improves children’s cognitive development, emotional intelligence and creativity, leading to better academic results and civic engagement. However, studies show that difficulty of learning music theory, lack of accessibility to resources and the lack of personalized guide in schools play a major role in child ending the music studies within the first 5 years. The use of mobile technologies and gamification in education has a great potential to overcome these obstacles but, so far, there are no digital solutions for music learning that have achieved it due either to their low academic value or because they are meant for older students. Mussila develops digital solutions that combine the potential of gamification and mobile technologies with the academic value of research-based music education practices. The objectives of this action were to assess the technological, commercial and financial viability through a revision of our technical roadmap, including the new features to be implemented in the App and the portfolio of Merchandise, and assessment of our commercial and IP strategy via a market study and a growth estimation based on our financial needs and resources.
In May this year we launched a new and enhanced version of the Mussila Music school, that is both richer in content and where the basic engine of the game mechanics is greatly improved. We also implemented tools to better track the user’s path in the game and based on that and feedback we have gathered from our users we have mapped out timeline and investment needed to implement new features. Moreover, we have closed a distribution deal in China that which will open for us a market of 200m users. In parallel, we have finalized the concept design of all spinoff products and identified further improvements needed to introduce Mussila into the educational system. After testing our current version with some schools, we decided to launch in the market a special edition of Mussila Music School that is tailored to the school environment. Accordingly, we have mapped out the development plan for our new product as well as the commercial strategy and partners needed.
With additional investment of €1 million in 2019 we will be able to have over 70m users of the Mussila Game App by 2023. In parallel, with a total investment of €1.7m we will be able to launch the Mussila special edition for Schools by 2021 in Iceland, UK, US, China and Chile, and reach over 7,200 subscriptions by 2023. By then, we expect a total revenue of €64m, 19% of which will come from the schools. This represents a major growth for our company (1000x the current revenues) and will generate 16 new positions internally and pave the way for a further growth in both operation and revenue.
