The First Energy Saving Shower Tray with Graphene

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - PassiveShowerEcoTray (The First Energy Saving Shower Tray with Graphene)

Berichtszeitraum: 2019-02-01 bis 2019-06-30

The smart-home is a growing market due to customers’ demand. Furthermore, new regulations from the EC coming into force in 2018 and their transposition into national laws, require the use of energy efficient solutions in hot water supply in buildings, which makes this a key market. The shower-tray market alone, estimated in 29M of trays, gives a European market of about €600M in 2018, with a CAGR of 10%.

The SME Cerian Shower developed and patented a built-in system for residual heat recovery in shower trays. It consists in a shower tray with a highly efficient heat-exchanger. This facilitates “do-it-yourself” installation for end-users and gives agility and lower costs to both end-users and construction companies. With Cerian Shower system, up to 44% of the energy used to warm up water for a shower is recovered.

Following the first prototypes developed by Cerian Shower, the company wanted during SMEInst-1 project to increment the efficiency (this was achieved, from an initial 40%, we went to a 44%), pursue product certification in The Netherlands (undergoing), testing in real settings (we achieved implementation of our system in real dwellings), and reaching further agreements with customers (our first agreements are also being signed and we are open to dialogue with further interested stakeholders).
During SMEInst-1 project implementation, we progressed in producing new and improved prototypes in order to be validated prior to sending them to the certification organisation. We also progressed in achieving agreements with customers and new providers. Regarding graphene, it was finally considered that it was not possible to include it in our shower trays. We increased our efficiency to 44%.
Currently, our shower tray is the most efficient and user-friendly of the market. By reducing by a 44% the energy used in a shower, it obviously has a huge impact in the environment.
