Publication of dual journal special issue

TU is currently publishing two regular academic journals which also cover the focus of the project: Acta Politica Estica, a peer-reviewed journal with an international editorial board published in Estonian, published annually + special issues; and Studies in Transition States and Societies, a peer-reviewed journal with an international editorial board and indexed in SCOPUS, published biannually + special issues. In the context of the project, the editorial practices will be reviewed and the editors will participate in a mentoring programme, which should help to improve the overall quality and impact of the journals as well as raise the profile of migration and integration issues in both. As an additional activity (and an exercise for editorial capacity building), a double special issue is planned which will be published both in the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies (in English) and Acta Politica Estica (in Estonian). The focus of the special issue will be related to the second international conference, and will focus more on the Nordic-Baltic spatial domain of migration and integration. As both journals are subject to peer review, alternative publication options will also be considered (e.g. other leading migration and integration journals). It will be noted by the editors of the special issue that it must include articles also from early-stage researchers, and where necessary, additional mentoring should be provided.

Scientific conference 2 on current issues in migration and integration research

In order to increase the visibility and role of TU as a centre for migration and integration research, two international conferences will be organised in cooperation with partners. The conferences will feature invited keynote speakers and an open call for papers for both early career researchers as well as advanced scholars, both among the consortium member institutions as well as other universities across the world. (The call will be announced via various professional networks and mailing lists, see detailed description in part 2.2.). The conferences will be a venue where to introduce the project and research done at TU, but also give input to the planned edited volume (Task 2.3) and the planned dual special issue (Task 2.4) and discuss the academic results of the project. The keynote speakers and best paper presenters will be given an opportunity to publish their paper in the edited volume/special issue and hence ensure the diversity of authorship in the volume and thus also the scope and potential readership of the book/special issue.

Edited volume submitted for publication

Drawing on the second conference, a book proposal with a working title 'New Dynamics and Typologies of East-West Migration in Europe' will be compiled and submitted to one of the leading book series on migration and integration studies (preferably the IMISCOE Research Series, published by Springer, but alternative options are the respective series under Routledge, Palgrave or Edward Elgar). The volume will be edited jointly by project participants from the UOS and TU.

Project website

"The setting up of the dedicated website with regularly updated project information will present the project's vision and goals in a non-expert, meaningful language, and be regularly updated with information about the project’s activities and deliverables. The website will keep interested parties informed about project developments and news. Furthermore, the website will be the main point of call for external inquiries and serve as the project's ""business card""."
