Trouver une solution pour la RAM
La résistance aux antimicrobiens (RAM) représente une menace importante pour la santé humaine et animale dans le monde. Les médicaments qui étaient autrefois des traitements efficaces pour une maladie le deviennent moins, entraînant une réduction de la capacité à traiter avec succès les infections. Le projet ABOLED, financé par l’UE, examine la viabilité commerciale d’une approche alternative à ce problème. La RAM est responsable d’environ 33 000 décès par an dans l’UE. On estime également que la RAM coûte 1,5 milliard d’euros par an à l’UE en frais de soins de santé et en pertes de productivité. Seuls 25 % des pays ont mis en œuvre une politique nationale pour lutter contre la RAM. Moins de 40 % des pays ont mis en place des programmes de prévention et de contrôle des infections concernant la RAM.
Objectif
Multidrug resistance of pathogenic bacteria has become a serious threat to public health. The need to develop novel technologies to combat the evolution of bacterial drug resistance is clearly a matter of public concern and urgency. The consequences of AMR include (i) reducing our ability to treat common infectious, resulting in prolonged illness and a greater risk of complications; (ii) patients remaining infectious for longer due to ineffective treatments, making them more likely to pass infections on to others; (iii) compromising advances in modern medicine (such as organ transplantation or chemotherapy) due to risk of infection; and (iv) increasing economic burden on health care systems, families, and societies. This project aims to assess the commercial viability of an alternative approach to this problem.
