Anticipating Safety Issues at the Design Stage of NAno Product Development

Resultado final

NM release from NEP during the life cycle stages and the relevant exposure routes

Report containing release rates and forms data, obtained by measuring NM release from NEPs life-cycle stages, through the access to ASINA testbeds facilities or laboratory-controlled simulations and corresponding p-chem characterization of released materials.

Nano-Risk assessment and recommendations for product safety requirements

Report including the safety profiles of the proposed design strategies, by using higher tier risk assessment models. The report will also include two sections reporting compliance of ASINA design solutions with the two VCs frameworks (REACH, biocides and cosmetics): suggesting design criteria and evaluating the proposed design solutions, in response to regulatory obligations.

Data Curation and DB establishment

A comprehensive ASINA project database system containing ASINA properties and performances attributes generated by WP1, 2, 3 as well as data collected from sources external to the project (databases, literature data, data obtained by interaction with other projects). The deliverable will also report the standardised ontology and templates used to describe all experiments and data generated within the project.

Roadmap outlining ASINA-SMM outputs

Description of the outputs delivered by ASINA-SMM, organised in three main sections: Strategy (SbD solutions, rational behind, methods for testing and ranking them), Implementation (guidelines for their implementation at pilot scale, results of validation tests, suggestion for their transferability to other applications and industrial sectors), Execution (regulatory and standardisation issues for delivering SBD solutions in compliance with existing rules and in a shape of a future standard).

Preliminary risk assessment of SbD solutions for the production of target NEPs

Report about the results of a preliminary characterization of risk applying low tier risk assessments models of the identified design alternatives to assist WP1 and WP3 on the selection of the optimum SbD strategies

Regulatory and standardization issues involved

Proposal of guidelines for the practical execution of ASINA SdB solutions, in compliance with existing rules (REACH, Biocides, Cosmetics, Medical Devices), in a shape of a future, new standards and/or inputs to existing standards, specifically conceived for promoting SbD nanomanufacturing.

Prediction of NM fate and exposure levels in humans and environment

Report outlining the relationships between key driving NM properties and extrinsic parameters and exposure performances (fate and exposure levels) in humans and environment.

Specifications for the use of existing resources in ASINA processes

Report suggesting technical specifications for the adequate use of PSbD resources identified in D31 describing in each case the necessary adaptations to ensure friendliness easy use and practical implementation of such solutions

NM p-chem properties database with respect to their intended use and NEP

Report including the OECD suggested worksheets for the definition of NM identity, intended use and behavior. The deliverable will also report a set of identified p-chem parameters (and methods for their measurement) that may affect technical performances related to material and product functionality (characterizing factors), with the identification, when possible, of modifying properties and variability ranges.

Characterization factors and attributes related to NM and NEPs functionality

Report containing technical performance attributes (and methods for their measurement) related to functionality of NM and NEPs. The performances attributes of materials and products of the two VCs will encompass the antimicrobial activity of raw materials and coated surfaces, the encapsulating efficiency and delivery capacity of nano-capsules, as well as further technical performances referred to coating or nano-encapsulating systems stability, durability, transformation.

NM collection, distribution and M-SbD hypothesis

Selection of target NM and NEPs and hypothesis of MSbD solutions 1 candidate antimicrobial NM or encapulating agentadditives and their possible modification 2 analysis of processability in the existing pilots 3 method of delivery how will the NM act how will the resulting NEP be used 4 potential alternativesmodifications for decreasing hazard or exposure potential

Report on the identification description and priorization of existing PSbD strategies and resources including gaps identification

ASINA ML Tool Train, Test and Validation

Report on the results of validation tests and the identification of response functions linking all materials and process parameters to the properties of concerns.

Characterization of the p-chem properties affecting toxicity and AOPs

Report outlining the relationships between AOPs linking pchem properties and hazard potential showing molecular initiating events key events and key event relationships proposing easy and rapid assays to identify key events and describing the adverse outcome
