In 2018, only 26% of EU-28 companies had been digitalized. The rest were relying on ad hoc small solutions as a way of simple automation due to the lack of integration of the current technical alternatives with the existing legacy systems, and a talent gap between old professionals and the new skills required to overcome the digitalization challenge.
In UGROUND, we have elaborated an approach that combines technology and quality assurance in our own patented MDE-based semantic platform. Our platform is specially oriented in supporting management needs in any business domain by transforming IT know-how into a flexible and self-regulating information system to manage company’s processes, information and actors. Our project (UDIGITAL) will lead now the transformation of European SMEs and will create a new digital paradigm to show them the value that digitalization will bring to their organization inside one of the most prominent technological markets for the next 5 years.

We have created several digital twins for large corporations and have given support to their daily activities. We propose now to create a digital marketplace to allow also SMEs the adoption of digital practices very quickly. We have designed a work plan for bringing our technology from its current state to a pre-commercial level (TRL-8), and investigated the risks associated to the creation of this project. We have conducted an in-depth market study to analyze new opportunities in different geographical regions, and applicable industries. We have studied new ways of commercialization strategies and the necessary actions for the further protection of our innovations. Finally, we have validated our financial business plan and projected revenues for the next years after the execution of the project.
Legacy systems have slowed down the digital transformation adoption. In addition, MDE has offered scalability and robustness, but MDE solutions are lacking evaluations in real industrial environments. Platforms created with low code technologies are aimed at disrupting the market, but they are failing also on being fast to be implemented by SMEs where financial barriers are higher. Our proposal is the only European player capable of using patented MDE-based techniques to cost-effectively overcome the challenges presented in SMEs by serving self-built and flexible packages without the need to be coded reducing drastically the time-to-market and improving the total cost of ownership
