Zusammenfassung vom Kontext und den Gesamtzielen des Projekts

The increasing digitization of society is one of the most interesting frontiers on the horizon to increase economic growth, curb emissions and improve general quality of life. One key part of the digitalization is the mass implementation of sensor network to gather data; data which can be used optimize ventilation, lighting etc. As the market for these sensor is expected to grow rapidly over the coming decade, powering these devices will be a severe bottleneck. The current available solutions: wiring or primary batteries are either expensive or require extensive maintenance and contain environmental challenging materials.
In this project we seek to address the shortcomings of the current available powering solutions by developing a light energy harvesting solution suitable for building and home automation with the overall aim to bolster the rising adoption of wireless sensor networks.
Our light harvesting solution is based on a novel and proprietary process of producing printed organic light modules which enables the production of a light energy harvesting product with a very good low light performance, excellent material integration properties and a minimal carbon footprint.

In the second reporting period, Epishine has continued to improve our existing processing abilities and further the market acceptance of our technology.
Work on investigating existing as well as novel materials has increased the performance and lifetime for both - current generation of products as well as next generation products. By finetuning our core process know-how, standardizing work tasks and procurement of new machinery the production capacity, yield and overall quality has improved significantly.
We have worked intensively with several commercial partners to create a common understanding of the market needs and the possibilities our technology can meet. This market interaction within our customers’ projects has also accelerated the transition of a developing perspective to a product perspective where we have created a number of integration solutions, prototypes and evaluation kits ready to be tested in a real life environment. We have also focused our activities on revising and executing our marketing and commercialization plans, including building sales channels and approaches, exploring protection of current and emerging IP and licensing for future expansion.

Epishine distinguishes itself by having released the world’s first, and currently only commercially available, printable organic PV product for indoor use. Epishine’s modules stand favourably when benchmarked towards competing technologies regarding affordability, stability, performance and with a unique low environmental impact and REACH/RoHS compliance. Epishine provides support regarding power management electronics and industrial design and with the modules, evaluation kits, and lux loggers Epishine has the toolbox to help the customers understand their light availability and how light energy harvesting techniques can be of value.
We have received positive reviews for our evaluation kits which have become a powerful tool for interested customers who would like to know more about light energy harvesting.
Our printing and conversion production facility in Sweden is undergoing ISO 9001 certification and the level of automation and streamlining of the production makes Epishine able to deliver products for the mass market. Boosted by an 8 M€ equity round we will be able to continue to scale both R&D, production, and Internationale sales.
