Nanoelectromechanical Infrared Detector

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - NIRD (Nanoelectromechanical Infrared Detector)

Berichtszeitraum: 2019-10-01 bis 2021-03-31

Our team at TU Wien in close collaboration with our startup Invisible-Light Labs GmbH has developed a prototype of a nanoelectromechanical infrared detector (NIRD). With its mechanical temperature sensing scheme NIRD is not limited by thermoelectric noise and can achieve exceptional infrared sensitivities in the picowatt regime. In this project we developed an initial lab-demonstrator further to a NIRD prototype that we tested together with potential customers. The NIRD prototype helped Invisible-Light Labs to get precious feedback from users and attract attention from potential investors. The next goal is to ship more NIRD prototypes to more customers to gather more user feedback in order to freeze the detector design and start producing our first commercial product. The NIRD product that will be commercialised by Invisible-Light Labs will improve protein analysis during drug development, enable environmental monitoring for potential toxic species with unprecedented sensitivity, and support fundamental research.
