Innovative, preparation-free, bio-electrodes for next-generation wearable devices

Next-generation wearable devices to protect human health

Scientists are taking next-generation wearable devices to a whole new level, working on the creation of an ‘Internet of Humans’ to support basic needs such as health monitoring. The EU-funded Dryode project proposes an advanced technology that consists of innovative bioelectrodes for wearable devices. The technology is based on surface geometry to make bio-electrodes perfectly adaptable on the skin. A long-term and discreet collection of information for biopotential control such as electromyography (EMG), electrocardiography (ECG) and electroencephalography (EEG) will now be possible. The bioelectrodes proposed are preparation-free, easy to use with exceptional signal quality both on the surface and in underwater conditions.

Objective

We at IDUN have developed the Dryode™ - a portfolio of innovative bio-electrodes to enable wearables for future healthcare and Internet of Humans. The Dryode shows skin compliance and self-adhesive properties enabling unobtrusive, long-term, recordings with clinical-grade performance in biopotential monitoring such as Electromyography (EMG), Electrocardiography (ECG) and Electroencephalography (EEG).
Dryode’s technology relies on surface geometry, rather than chemistry, to improve the bio-electrode’s adherence. Keeping contact with the skin, self-adherence minimizes motion artefacts. Our bio-electrodes are preparation free, comfortable and show an outstanding signal quality also in underwater conditions.
