Project description
Speeding up development of IoT devices
Companies offering IoT products have seen a colossal rise in profits and work in the last decades. Most of these developers, however, end up using up to 90 % similar specifications for their products. A lot of time is thus wasted during development, increasing the time-to-market and decreasing company profits. The EU-funded OriginIoT project aims to develop an innovative methodology using three main technology breakthroughs to address this. The OriginIoT™ is a generic system-on-module for mass manufacture that preserves high-quality performance. OriginSmart™ obviates the need for additional embedded programming in IoT devices by using a cloud server. The third is OriginLabs™, a software as a service solution, which will provide device development services from the web.
Objective
OriginIoT™ implements a ground-breaking concept taking into account the realisation that many IoT products have many components and lines of code in common. We see many developers developing similar electronic schemas, integrating the same components and enduring the same hardships in the development process. They end-up with 80-90% of their spec very similar to many other IoT products. This project introduces game-changing cellular IoT development methodology focused on preserving knowledge from each IoT development cycle to the next. OriginIoT™ is composed of novel hardware and software enabling expedited cellular IoT development cycles, reducing time-to-market drastically for customers. Three main technology breakthroughs form the main building blocks of the solution: OriginIoT™ preserving high quality performance in a generic, miniature system-on-module (SoM); including high GNSS performance in the world’s smallest footprint, ready for mass manufacturing; OriginSmart™: allowing the user to develop IoT devices with no additional embedded programming efforts. The traditional approach of programming the hardware behaviour on its embedded microcontroller is replaced by the novel approach of setting all required functionality from a remote cloud-server; and OriginLabs™ IoT development software as-a-service (SaaS) solution. Taking the solution one step further and offering complete device development services from the web. OriginLabs™ includes a “developer-journey” step-by-step tool, comprehensible for non-technical personnel. Successful implementation of OriginLabs™ will remove all barriers that developers in the IoT industry face today and will also allow us to sell solutions directly to end-customers, who are traditionally approached by an integrator or other technology company. OriginIoT™ addresses the cellular IoT industry and the downstream GNSS market. The cellular IoT market is forecasted to reach $5.31B USD by 2022, with a CAGR of 23% over the next seven yrs.
