Sustainable Nitrite Biosensor for Food Safety monitoring

Project description

Advanced training for food safety monitoring

Food safety monitoring is among the most important concerns in the EU today. As a result, advanced technology is applied and high-level research training performed through numerous scientific projects. The EU-funded SOON project will provide an experienced researcher with high-level research training in sustainable biosensors for food safety monitoring, to work on the planning and advancement of the next-generation sustainable single-use biosensors for nitrite monitoring. Hosted by an experienced institution and a technological research centre, the training will link basic research and industry, and will transfer knowledge and results between the academic world and industry leaders.

Objective

SOON is a career development scientific project aimed at offering an experience researcher (Dr. Oscar Andrés Loaiza) high quality research training in the field of Sustainable Biosensors for Food Safety monitoring, linking the knowledge of multidisciplinary fields of the bioelectroanalytical chemistry and advanced manufacturing technologies. Combining the researcher’s previous experience in analytical chemistry, nanomaterial fabrication and biosensors based on screen-printing technologies, and the hosting institution (BIOLAN Microbiosensores S.L.) proven expertise in developing electrochemical biosensors for food industry, in the framework of SOON we will research on the design and development of a future new generation of sustainable single-use biosensors for nitrite monitoring applied to food safety. Along with these scientific objectives, the project also focuses on developing the researcher’s transferable skills by strengthening communication, scientific writing, supervision and international mobility, preparing him to become an independent well-established scientist. SOON will link both basic research and industry thanks to the scientific excellence and industrial environment of the hosting organization (BIOLAN) and of the technological research centre during the secondment institution (NAITEC). In this sense, the researcher will be given a promising opportunity to transfer knowledge and results between academia and industry. After all, SOON aims at providing excellent working conditions to an ambitious international scientific talent in a high-level industrial and research environment, helping him to build his research career in Europe.
