Recycling of off-gases dusts coming from metallurgical procedures for FeNi production

Objective

The project is aiming at the recycling of more than 1 000 000 tons of dust coming from rotary kilns gases produced during the procedure for the production of ferronickel out of lateritic ore. The expected results will be the upgrading of environment, the economical benefits on the procedure and energy savings due to the incorporated in the dust carbon.

The project aims at the recycling of more than 1 000 000 tons of dust coming from rotary kiln gases produced during the procedure of ferronickel production from lateritic ore. This quantity of dust has been accumulated due to the insufficiency of the techniques in the past for dust recycling. The recycling will be achieved by dust introduction in the existing pelletising system through suitable arrangement of equipments (crusher, sieve, belt conveyor, silos).

The expected results will be the upgrading of the environment, the economical benefits on the procedure and the energy saving due to the carbon content of the dust.

Moreover recycling of the agglomerated pelletized material (due to Portland cement content) during the curing time will be achieved. So, pellets unsuitable for feed will not be stored.

Finally the continuous operation of the semi-industrial sintering machine will be started up. Through it, an independent way for dust recycling will be in operation at the extra benefit of by-passing the rotary kilns and therefore relieving the burden of today's dust pneumatic transportation equipment given that the sintered product will be fed into the electric furnaces. For this purpose, an installation for mixture preparation to be processed as well as one for sintered product handling will be necessary.

By this combined way there will be a solution to the problem of the continous dust recycling, on a permanent basis, with the environment being charged no more under any circumstances.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
