Project description
Setting up a Transplant Immunology Research Centre of Excellence in Istanbul
The EU-funded TIREX project aims to establish a Transplant Immunology Research Centre of Excellence in Istanbul. First, the project will tap the potential of South-Eastern Europe in the research and clinical field of transplant immunology. Second, TIREX will act as a Key Knowledge Hub to link local and regional research capacities in the field. Third, it will provide a direct interface with international research and clinical communities in Middle East and Asia. Fourth, TIREX will address health, demographic change and wellbeing societal national, regional and European challenges. Furthermore, a European Research Area Chair holder will be recruited for the development of a sustainable structural change management process.

The Centre will entail the vision and ambition to: (i) fully leverage on the considerable national and South-Eastern Europe potential in the research and clinical field of transplant immunology, (ii) liaison and act as a Key Knowledge Hub to link local and regional research capacities in the field with the main European Centres of Excellence; (iii) provide a direct interface with well-established international research and clinical communities in particular in Middle-East and Asia, and (iv) effectively address the health, demographic change and wellbeing societal national, regional and European challenges through successive scientific advancements. Furthermore, TIREX is expected to help KU design and deploy a sustainable structural change management process that will be initiated with the recruitment of the ERA Chair Holder and its team of promising researchers and which will be in line with the ERA priorities and best practices that similar European outstanding institutions apply to promote scientific and research excellence.
