Periodic Reporting for period 1 - NIGHTFOREARTH (SCIENTISTS FROM VARIOUS FIELDS TEACH US HOW TO CARE FOR THE PLANET ON A DAILY BASIS)
Berichtszeitraum: 2020-07-01 bis 2021-04-30
The NIGHTFOREARTH builts on the expierence from the previous ones realised within last 13 years, with 2 new partners on board and new science fields invoved. Topics at individual Partners were selected in terms of the main message of the project which focuses on showing how we can care for the Earth in our every-day -life. Environmentally friendly solutions will be also adapted in the project's promotion and management.
During each subsequent Reserachers ' Night, public interest has been growing successive and new generations have become interested in science and scientists. This year's project aims to strengthen previous ones and shed light on new aspects of science. We want to spread the idea to the public at large, but specially to the young people that the work of scientists is a noble mission to save the planet, and it is worth learning from them. And all this thanks to science presented in a direct playful way (edutainment).
Pre-events:
1.“Lato z helem” – online popular science lectures
2.“Smart Summer Cump” – online workshops for children
3.“Fizyka warta poznania” – online seminar
4.“Smart Cump”- learning through play - remote workshops for children
Revamping, constant updating and maintenance of project website namely www.nocnaukowcow.pl (common address for other RNs projects in Poland as a part of a joint national awareness campaign (detailed programme, photos and reporting after the event itself, photos and stories about researchers taking part in the event, impact assessment questionnaire, live broadcast from the event during the Night);
Revamping, constant updating and maintenance of social network profiles (Facebook, Google +, Twitter, YouTube)
Gazeta Wyborcza is the official media “supporter” of the Researchers’ Night in Poznań (for the twelfth year running). Several articles before and after the Night were published.
AMS became the official media patronage of the event. Common campaign with other projects conducted in Poland.
Summarizing about 480 number of publications was released in media about Researchers’ Night. That is: articles published in written press (Gazeta Wyborcza, Głos Wielkopolski, Rzeczpospolita, City Poznań), internet articles, radio stations, tv spots. It is important that all news were in positive tone.
WP 2: ACTIVITIES DURING THE NIGHT
The event took place at 27th of November 2020 and due to the coronavirus pandemic online only.
The heart of all activities was "Telewizja Nocy Naukowców - Researcher’s Night Television", the central element of which will be the Researchers' Night Studio, broadcasting live what will happen on 8 thematic live channels of our Partners.
The Researchers 'Night Day started at 4:00 PM The LIVE program was available for the participants, and for those who, for various reasons, could not participate in the event, a VOD program was created, which can be freely played and viewed during the Researchers' Night and after it.
The ceremonial Inauguration of the Researchers' Night has always attracted crowds to the Aula of the Lecture Center of the Poznan University of Technology. This time, due to the pandemic, only two people were present in the Aula: Jolanta Szajbe (coordinator of the Researchers' Night) and Michał Wieczorowski (vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation with the Economy Poznan University of Technology) encouraging to participate in online events. The inauguration could be seen through an online broadcast.

Individual Partners programs in common theme: "Scientists from various fields teach us how to care for the planet on a daily basis". This year, the RN project lays emphasis on the science of climate and ecology under the motto: Scientists from various fields teach us how to look after the planet every day. It aims to increase environmental awareness, raise responsibility for environmental protection. Scientists are to show how to care for the environment, what are the new trends in research on nature protection, what are the technologiesthat minimize threats to our planet. We want every participant of Researchers' Night to come out with the conviction that with their single-handed actions they can improve the condition of the planet Earth, we want them to learn research methods on improving the quality of life, environmental protection and new methods that can help minimize the risks of harmful human activities. We will show that you need to think globally and act ECO-locally.
Project participants also showed that the joint project of Researchers’ Night will not only be a one-night event. We would like the cooperation between the partners of the Night to last longer and trigger avalanche effects; care for the environment, increased awareness of participants and their further pro-ecological activities. We want them to be like an ecological snowball that turns into eco-avalanche that will improve the quality of the environment in Poland, minimizing the negative effects of human activity. Young people in Poland feel the need to increase their climate awareness, and scientists want to address this by showing their achievements in this field. The Researchers’ Night Program primarily shows how science supports the climate as well as the latest technologies. Most partners organize ZERO WASTE workshops aimed at approximating the principles of ecology.
