Structural steelwork Eurocodes - development of a trans-national approach

Ziel

Structural Eurocodes are being developed to try to ensure that designs for buildings and structures are compatible throughout Europe. Many of these standards have now been published, at least in draft form. Engineers in all countries need to be encouraged to use and comment on these draft versions of the Eurocodes to ensure that they are useful working documents which will be interpreted in a unified manner. Currently, an insufficient response has been received from industry on the draft documents.

This project aims to develop high quality, standard training modules and make them widely available by direct teaching and CD-Rom. It will also deliver national seminars in several member countries to highlight the work of this project and encourage a greater understanding and use of these design standards in structural steelwork. The lectures will be produced in several languages both on paper and in CD-Rom format and will be made widely available to the steelwork industry and to academic establishments.

Impact
This project will encourage a wider transnational discussion of draft versions of the Eurocode standards and create common training modules to ensure a single philosophy on their interpretation and use.
