Preventive procedures into practice

Objective

The goal of the project is to develop methods of preventing young people's exclusion from work and vocational training. It develops the conclusions of a PETRA Programme report on the needs of adolescents involved in alternance-based training and education.

At national level, each partner organisation has selected a pilot group of students, ranging from 15 to 25 years of age. These groups will be taught and guided by a teacher and a multidisciplinary team. In transnational workshops and seminars, the teams and teachers will be trained to shift their focus of work from changing the student to changing the system and relationships of which the student is a part. The monitoring and follow-up of the process will be done by developing a self-assessment inventory for the teams and documenting the events in the project. The result will be the production of a booklet of guidelines on preventive methods against exclusion in vocational training. The self-assessment inventory for the teams will be published in diskette and printed version. The learning process of shifting the focus from crisis help to prevention will be continued through the network developed under the project.

Impact
Teachers and guidance professionals will be trained to use a systematic prevention approach in their work. Individual students will be helped to identify their strengths rather than their weaknesses. The change of focus is a learning process both for the students and the professionals involved.
