Ziel
Employment routes for young adults with learning disabilities have traditionally focused on low skilled manual labour activities. These areas of work are declining in the lesser populated areas of Scandinavia. Traditional vocational training strategies need adapting to provide alternative employment opportunities for this disadvantaged group.
The specific objective of this pilot project is to establish transnational exchanges to develop new vocational training opportunities for the target group. These will offer training providers the opportunity to pool their experience and knowledge to generate ideas for the production of a new training syllabus. Students with learning disabilities will be offered the opportunity to develop social and personal skills necessary for working life. The partnership aims to promote equality of access to initial vocational training and life-long learning in new employment areas. The use of information technology as a learning tool and for networking will enhance the project's development.
Impact
The project will develop and extend existing vocational strategies of training providers and reduce prejudice towards young adults with learning disabilities. The target group will acquire transferable skills, which will open access to alternative areas of employment.
