EU statutes and regulations regarding environmental protection are highly developed. However, implementation still varies a great deal and remains incomplete. A large number of companies will have to apply the environmental programmes in the future if they want to remain competitive. The result of this is, particularly for SMEs, an increased demand for appropriate specialist staff. The aim of this project is to develop a modular programme for training Company Environmental Officials for companies within the EU. Having such a qualified member of staff will enable SMEs, in particular, to implement the company environmental protection measures required.
The project contains a programme for creating new qualifications and jobs. This transnational pilot project, which can be incorporated into all the vocational training systems and occupational groups that currently exist in Europe, will enable the trainees, following completion of the modules, to work as environmental experts in relevant areas of industry. This will make it possible for companies to conduct analyses and solve environmentally related problems independently. Legal issues in the area can then be dealt with, also taking operational and economic factors into consideration. Co-operation within the project between educational institutions and industry will facilitate practical testing at company level, thereby ensuring that the curriculum is suited to practical requirements. The objective of this programme is to enable people with varying educational backgrounds to enter this sector at any time by means of a vocational training programme with a modular structure using adapted teaching aids and software programs.

This project will facilitate qualification as an Environmental Official in industrial sectors.
