Objective
This project is a response to rapidly changing qualification needs in the labour market, as a result of commercial, technological and organisational developments. Employers find it increasingly important to identify the specific qualifications employees need. Employees must be able to relate to customers, handle information, understand commercial matters, meet high quality standards and be able to find solutions for problems that have no ready-made solutions.
It is the aim of the project to pioneer methods for training flexible, broadly-skilled employees and to develop ideas and recommendations allowing vocational education and training systems to respond while still taking into account the different national educational systems of EU partners.
Data will be collected through interviews and a questionnaire circulated in each of the partner countries. Respondents will be supervisors, employers and employees in the metal industry. This data will be compiled into country reports and discussed in a workshop. New data will be then collected through more interviews and a questionnaire circulated amongst teachers, trainers and policy makers. Again, the data will be compiled into country reports and discussed in a workshop. Conclusions will be built into a final report together with summary data on the partners' surveys and information on the research methods.
Impact
The project will provide models and methodologies for planners and policy makers at European member state level.
