The furniture sector is currently in a state of major industrial change. There are several reasons for this : less visibility in terms of company costs, as companies only have a few weeks worth of orders in advance; changes in consumer expectations and behaviour; and fierce international competition. The only real hope is to develop and master competitive elements for the long term. This pilot project aims to train in-company mentors on how to transfer skills to employees.
There will be three stages to FORTISSIME. It will begin with an analysis of company furniture needs and existing practices, as well as mentor requirements. Prototypes of the curriculum and training modules, a glossary on the mentor's post, and a qualitative training evaluation chart will be developed. The second stage will consist of testing and evaluating the curriculum and training module prototypes in three partner enterprises. A second set of tests will be carried out on four other sites in order to finalise the self-training tools for mentors. The third stage will be to design a CD-ROM to distribute these tools.
The final products of this project will be displayed during furniture fairs and exhibition, as well as in the professional journals of the different partners.
Impact
Training schemes developed on the basis of real-life furniture company practices will be used for self-training purposes.
