Creation of a centre for linguistic resources in an international network for the development of language skills in specialised subjects

Objective

European multilingualism presents a unique opportunity and challenge for professional development, provided that the teaching of specialist language is methodologically and didactically appropriate to the particular features of the specialist language, and that it takes place at a demonstrably productive level as far as media technology is concerned. If specialist language teaching can be successfully adapted to the needs of the individual European countries in the fields of commerce, communication, and tourism, the exchange of goods and services in Europe will take place in a more unified, cohesive manner.

To achieve this, it is necessary to specify the preconditions for drawing up national curricula, by means of which teacher training in the field of specialist language can be put on a more progressive, Europe-oriented level. These preconditions should also be formulated in a way that facilitates the independent study of specialist language. Of particular importance is the need to make the criteria transferable to other countries.

The intention of this project is, to establish the framework of an international network in collaboration with the participating partners. A co-ordinating centre will be established to study and draw up the criteria relating to specialist language, for the creation of national curricula. These criteria will be documented in instructional material.

Impact
Given that almost every social or economic exchange is international, optimum objective preconditions for communication in language or specialist language will be drawn up. At the same time, the subjective preconditions and their implications in a European acting and trading process will be compiled using self-motivating didactic methodology in a multimedia format.
