Objetivo
New requirements are emerging in nursing education, and there is a need to improve training methods to meet greater demands regarding clinical practice and quality improvement among nursing students. All students must have clinical practice, but there are limits to the numbers that can attend at any one time. Clinical practice is also expensive. A possible solution, and one that has been proved to have a major pedagogical impact, is to use CD-ROM to transmit the curriculum.
Interactive Multi Media (IMM) is a computer-based learning system where nursing students can acquire information through written words, sound, and visual effects such as pictures or video. They also have to be able to make choices in order to progress in the computer programme or to respond to questions.
The partners to this project will use IMM tools for training nursing students, and to refresh and update the knowledge of trained nurses. The partners will test existing IMM programmes in nursing education, and measure the outcomes. The programmes will then be adapted and developed with new up-to-date content. The training programme will be made easily available to other colleges in the CD-ROM format.
Impact
The outcomes of this project will help students optimise the benefit they obtain from their short clinical practice. There will therefore be an increase in the efficiency of clinical practice.
