Objective
The project is concerned with the creation and adaptation of distance learning courses and materials to promote access to initial and continuous training. It will lead to internationally accredited vocational qualifications encompassing a core compulsory module of language and communication, work placements and contact within the workplace, and training geared specifically to the media industry. The purpose is to increase the opportunities for people at a disadvantage, due to either geographical, ethnic factors or physical disabilities. The project further aims to support individuals hoping to enter, or already working within, the media industries.
The partnership will pilot a collaborative 'after school' learning approach which will provide a learning environment, in the context of media training which arms the learner with proficiency in language and communications skills, positive attitudes and self confidence. The project will specifically target inner city young people of African-Caribbean origin.
Curriculum materials developed will be modular and flexible, with the compulsory language and communication module linking all others. They will be produced on CD-ROM and in printed form. Taster samples will be included on the project leader's web pages. In the long-term, it is the intention of the partners to produce the materials on video to allow greater accessibility, and convey such information through remote networks across the internet.
Impact
The curriculum developed by this project will be submitted for national accreditation in the countries involved, and the partners will also work towards international recognition.
