Objective
The overall aim of the project is to find a practical solution to stop students from leaving the education system prematurely without having achieved any qualifications during secondary education, and thus making it almost impossible for them to advance successfully into vocational education/training. Despite having different national strategies intended to support the economic, social and cultural well being of disadvantaged and disabled people, the partners have identified a common client need in the transition from pre- to post-16 education. The aim will be achieved by focusing on those students who are disaffected within the school environment and, as a result, fail to achieve a suitable level of vocational qualifications which will help them compete for employment.
The English and the Dutch partners will research and present a number of case studies of good practice. These will then be evaluated and a 'blue-print' model formulated. The final products will include : a specialised programme for disaffected students; training for trainers to deliver programmes for disaffected students; and a tracking system and guidance & counselling service which pro-actively monitors student progression.
Impact
The project will reduce unemployment, social problems and the consequent drain on the economy. It will also increase students' attendance, achievement and progress rates.
