In and b-isdn signalling integration on atm platforms

Leistungen

Summary: The GMD-FOKUS Broadband Video Conference (B-VC) application is a multimedia multiparty service providing real-time conferencing in which both audio and video can be exchanged among single individuals or groups of individuals at two or more locations via the B-ISDN. Users can be either multiple users, grouped in conference rooms with their equipment's (audio and video systems, PC, etc.), or single users with multimedia workstations. Following B-VC scenarios have been developed and provided: Conference creation, Conference establishing, Static conference management, Adding user to conference, Invite conferee, Join conferee, Leave conferee, Check invitation, Disconnect conferee and Close down. Additionally, a flexible permission mechanism has been introduced, allowing same rights to all conferees or at least one confree with higher permissions. The conference is defined by its conference state, conferees and all established/to be established connections beteen each pair of conferees: user connections for audio, video and data transmission and connections between the B-VC End System (CPE) and the Broadband Intelligent Peripheral (B-IP) used to run a conference management protocol. Audio and video mixing is done at the CPE. One additional function of the CPE is the provisioning of a graphical user interface and access to diferent kinds of signalling protocols.
Summary: The GMD-FOKUS Broadband Intelligent Peripheral (B-IP) provides the specialized resources which are required for the execution of IN provided broadband services, in particular multimedia user interaction. It interfaces and interacts with an Service Control Point (SCP), contains the logic and processing capabilities to work together with a broadband End System (CPE) and may contain the communication and processing capabilities to make full use of the broadband transmission capabilities of the network. In case of Broadband Video Conference the functionality's Implemented in the B-IP are the Conference Information Data Base, which holds information needed in user dialogues, Data Base locking mechanism ensuring data integrity, and control protocols to communicate with the End System and the SCP.

Exploitable results

Using available equipment, the project researches prototypes of broadband service switching points (B-SSPs), broadband service control points (B-SCPs) and broadband intelligent peripherals (B-IPs). This equipment will be deployed in the context of different national hosts (NH), interconnected and exposed to real users. Results so far include: precise definition and implementation of interfaces and protocols to allow interworking of equipment coming from various project partners, particularly the Network-Node Interface (NNI) for the establishment of switched connections within a network and the INSIGNIA Broadband Intelligent Network Application Protocol (B-INAP) for the provision of control functionality of powerful multi-party multimedia services: realisation of the selected services (Broadband Video Conference, Broadband Video on Demand, Broadband Virtual Private Network) on the INSIGNIA architecture has been defined in detail (service logic has been implemented on the B-SCP and the B-IP for the three services); implementation of network elements B-SSP, B-SCP, B-IP and of end systems; planning of the trials and production of a detailed integration and test plan for the first trial; construction of simulation models to study the performance of the system developed for the first trial; provision of input for the development of the system for the second trial (performance measurements have been planned in detail so that the models can be verified and congestion control mechanisms have been studied); contributions and many papers accepted on European and international conferences; active participation in the High Speed Networking Domain and several contributions for the production of guidelines.
