COBRA's results cover a broad range beginning with an architecture that covers pragmatically all aspects of electronic brokerage up to software packages that enable effective brokering in successful pilot applications. The market of information brokering strongly relates to the field of knowledge management. Information brokering technology is a core technology for knowledge management, since it refines, combines and disseminates goal-oriented information to individuals or workgroups adapted to their needs and context. It builds business information relevant to effective action and integrates experiences, potentials and inter-individual understanding. Common to all studies is the use of the term "knowledge management" as a superset of workgroup computing, document management, information retrieval, electronic commerce, and all that is relevant to effective business. Therefore, all business will be impacted by information brokering technology. The annual growthrate is estimated at more than 100% by several IT-analysts. The growth rate for this market will continue to increase as corporate strategic planners come to understand that knowledge management leverages both the productivity improvement capabilities and the innovation possibilities of their organisations and their existing applications. Even though a lot of studies are published and several software products for search, retrieval, agent technology etc. are presented on the market, all developments lack a common architecture and specific environments that enable high quality information brokering for business-to-business relationships.
