Obiettivo
This project aims to address the challenges which the developing turbot farming industry faces, i.e. : - improvement of live and artificial diets
- achievement of higher yields of pigmented and non-deformed juveniles
- optimization of the production process
The project will be concerned with the study of critical factors interfering with broodstock manipulation and the culture success of larvae of turbot (Scophtalmus maximus). The control of the egg and larval quality through manipulation of the diet of the broodstock together with the identification (qualitative as well as quantitative) of the specific nutritional requirements of the larval stages are considered as the major themes of this research. The following tasks have therefore been identified:
1. Broodstock manipulation as to improve egg/larval quality.
2. Identification of the nutritional requirements of the different larval stages, especially with respect to (n-3) HUFA, various lipid classes, vitamin C and protein composition.
3. Detection of the nutritional factor interfering with pigmentation.
