Cystic fibrosis as a model disease to set up procedures for cost-effective genetic testing and counselling in Europe

Using the genetic disease cystic fibrosis (CF) as a model, this project aimed to pursue a high quality of technical results and information concerning these results in the European laboratories involved. Further quality control trials of the laboratory tests and a permanent education of the persons performing these tests are essential to reach these goals. In addition, international criteria will be formulated for the evaluation of testing laboratories. This will ultimately lead to the formulation of the first European directives for the accreditation of laboratories involved in genetic diagnosis services for CF.
