JOCAL - joining of copper and aluminium alloys by laser

Laser welding parameters, including the choice of the shielding gas, type of coating layers, laser intensity, and most suitable weld geometry, have been established for the following situations. Carbon dioxide seam welding of all alloys, neodymium yttrium aluminium garnet (Nd:YAG) seam welding of copper alloys, and Nd:YAG spot welding of aluminium alloys. A control system for laser soldering and brazing has been developed and demonstrated. Conditions for laser soldering and brazing have been established, both experimentally and by calculation. Deinsulation of copper wire has been demonstrated. A laser welding monitoring system has been developed. Licences for the control system and the monitoring systems are available.
