Advanced flight management system (AFMS)

This synthesis report presents the results of the project "Advanced Flight Management System (AFMS)", tasked by the Directorate General DGXII of the European Commission. In the course of the project a set of demonstrators for an Advanced Flight Management System were developed and evaluated. The project focused mainly on flight management functions that are compatible with the future European CNS/ATM environment, including flight plan negotiation and 4D planning/guidance,on the role of the crew as the manager of the airborne part of the future ATM and on the overall system integrity. In particular the project provided three main results, a fixed wing short term system, a fixed wing medium term system and a rotary wing medium term system.
