The main objective of the project is to study a new technique for the construction of conventional machine structural elements that makes tangible use of light structures. This solution results in saving resources of material and time and in a decrease of the final cost of the machine. This technique is based on using a reticule of truss elements linked through screwed spherical knots, nowadays used in architectural and civil engineering fields, or through welded joints.
The processing assistant tool allows automating the design of structural parts based on bars and nodes, finding the optimum configuration of nodes and bars for the inputted restrictions (structural behaviour, position of components, sizes, free places) and finding the maximum reliability of static and dynamic predictions of assembled machine tools based on theoretical FE-models of the individual machine components. The architecture establishes the bases of the architecture for doing, afterwards out of the project, the complete software tool. The architecture includes all the aspects related with design, calculus, evaluation of different structural alternatives, dynamic coupling techniques and construction and assembly of basic components.
