New processing technology for production of multilayered products in the industrial field

Ziel

The target of the project, the fully automated production of multilayer products, has been attained and demonstrated on a pressure vessel serving as an example of a component. The three-dimensional reinforcing fabrics developed for this purpose of the project not only have proved themselves on a pressure vessel serving as an example of a component, but also open up perspectives for the optimization of the product. Tests conducted within the framework of the project could verify that the resulting elongation of the thermoplastic component under permanent load could be reduced by 50%. It can be safely assumed that the continued development of this technology can serve to reduce this creep even further.

The technology developed for the production of reinforcing fabrics facilitates the production of the greatest variety of rotationally symmetrical forms. Owing to the possibility of aligning the fibres along the longitudinal axis of the rotationally symmetrical body and around the circumference, the fabric proves an excellent and economical addition or - depending on the product - also an alternative to the braiding technology most used at present.

Within the scope of the project, a further technology was developed for the automated handling of the reinforcing textile fabric. For the rotationally symmetrical reinforcing textile required in the project, a handling solution involving self-adhesive retaining elements was preferred to a solution involving mechanical grippers. Developed in the project for the handling of freeform fabrics and their positioning for further processing was a solution involving mechanical grippers. This solution primarily distinguishes itself through its minimal penetration of the textile fabric by the grip elements and through a uniform application of the retention force to the textile fabric.

The synthesis of innovative plastics and textile technologies in this multilayer technology facilitates the production of thermoplastic components permitting a previously unattainable level of functional integration and improvements to the mechanical properties (e.g. greatly reduced creep, improved energy absorption.
The aim of this project is the development of a new process technology, which, with the help of special machines and tools on the one hand and with special material types or material combinations on the other side, and with the addition of textile implants, enables the fully automatic production of multilayered composites. This is not possible with GFMT technologies. The experimental design of multi component machines in connection with multi component tools and connected robots, which bring the externally finished 3 dimensional textile implants into the tool after the first processing step, makes it possible to produce composite parts with a thermoplastic matrix fully automatically. The main focus of the project is the experimental realisation and implementation of the described process technology preparing the technological basis to produce the respective products.
