New detection system for the screw machining industry

Obiettivo

Quality standards in the Screw Machining Industry are more and more constraining. The manufacturers face a lack of control systems efficient enough to allow automated supervision of the production line and the failures occuring during the process. The aim of this project is to study the technical feasability of a fault detecting system in real time and to automatically stop the processing tool. According to the requirements of the firms, the following main problems need to be solved with automatic control system in order to allow them to reach the specifications of their customers: - the supervision of the tool's wear - the supervision of the raw material's supply - tool's break - size margin monitoring. The planned research project, aims at assessing the technical feasibility of a fault dectecting system in real time and to automatically stop the processing tool. From these R&D results, SMEs expect the following improvements: - decrease in the non-quality costs - materials saving - time saving - energy saving - better monitoring of the operations - better sorting - less litigations with clients. As a result, the SMEs will get a complete system allowing them to reach the zero defect and answer to the specifications of their customers and deeply reinforce their position on the european market as well as on the world market.
