Automotive drive using pneumatic batteries with oilhydraulic interface and fast refilling permormances

Objective

All the analysis of the environmental, social and e.onomic aspects have shown that a non-polluting car is needed to limit local nuisance concentration and global CO2 unbalance, particularly in cities. The aim of the project is to overcome the deadlock of electro-chemical energy storage, to finally be able to develop a zero pollution pneumatic vehicle. This goal should be achieved by the development of new interfaces which would allow to store energy in compressed air with efficiencies similar to state of the art battenes. The thermodynamic efficiency barrier will be torn down by the use of oil as intermediary fluid combining the three needed functions of thennal inertia, caloric transportation and internal slow movement multiplication. We will get as a result a battery containing no aggressive chemicals and hence easily recyclable, with user benefits of fast refilling, accurate metering of deliverable energ! and temperature insensitivity. These works could finally make it possible to open the market of the zero pollution car and, for European car manufacturers, to deeply modify their world-wide market positions. The exploratory phase showed that the BOP should easily compete with EVs in price, energy-to-weight ratio, life expectancy and recycling capacity. This market addresses the ZEV market which is valued to 232 000 vehicles in Europe per year (2% of registrations per year). The objective for BOP is to obtain 5 to 10 ° % of this market which would generate a 29 to 58 million ECU revenue per annum for Automotive On Board Equipments only: these figures do not take into account the revenues from infrastructure, vending systems, etc... The proposers will benefit in two ways from the BOP vehicle programme thanks to the opening of a new and individually unattainable market by developing their concepts and products towards higher volumes of production in the mobile equipment field, and thanks to the windfall of these new productions as feedback to their established activities, whiche are: - hydraulic valving and remote control for JUNG, - energy storage (specially for renewab]e energies) for PRIME, - hydraulic motorisation and controls for TECHNISCHE HYDRAUL1K. - applications of composite vessels for ULLIT Eventually, the BOP project will deeply modify the ZEV and automotive industries with major consequences and opportunities for the whole automotive supply chain and in particular the numerous SMEs that belong to this supply chain.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
